Abstract:

Research in fusion science shows synergies with the development of industrial products and can thus contribute to their improvement (multiple-use). An analysis of the multiple-use potential of the materials in the heat-flux of a fusion reactor for industrial applications at the Siemens AG is the starting point of this work. Based on the research results on the fracture behavior of tungsten used as plasma-facing-material various tungsten grades are investigated under the thermo-cyclic loadings typical for X-ray anodes. Tape casting is discussed as an alternative way to produce tungsten with an isotropic and fine-grained microstructure.
