The thesis investigates a hydroalkoxylation reaction on a metal surface under ultra-high vacuum conditions and unravels its hydrogen tunneling-mediated pathway enabling the furan-ring synthesis at low temperatures (150 K). Furthermore, a novel method for deprotonating terminal alkynes through oxygen gas treatment at 200 K on Ag(111) is developed. The ultraclean process provides the basis for building long-range, regular on-surface metal-coordinated Ag-alkynyl networks through simple annealing as demonstrated.
