Biological invasions and restoration: trait-based design of seed mixtures, biotic resistance and competition with native species
Translated title:
This dissertation investigates the invasion resistance of plant communities originating from engineered seed mixtures and intended for grassland restoration. Combining a theoretical framework on biotic resistance with greenhouse experiments, fundamental questions of the trait-based design of resistant seed mixtures and of invasion ecology in general are addressed. Results show that it is possible to create resistant communities and tackle at the same time other practical issues in grassland restoration. The insights improve our ability for predicting, preventing and managing invasive species in restored areas.
