Within four studies the influence of virtual environments and holographic stimuli on motor-cognitive performance in patients with chronic neurological disorders was investigated. Mixed Reality technology was shown to be a powerful tool to 1) influence affective state, 2) affect task performance, and 3) guide interactions in real-world environments, in both healthy individuals and patients with action disorders (e.g., apraxia after stroke or Alzheimer´s dementia). These findings may inform the development of assistive technologies for motor-cognitive rehabilitation.
