The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the German company-bicycle leasing program for the first time and to introduce insights regarding adoption determinants, bicycle commuting behavior and health effects. Informed by Diffusion of Innovations Theory, results of a qualitative case study reveal various facets at both the employer and the employee level as drivers and barriers of the adoption of the program. Findings of a two-wave longitudinal study indicate that compatibility as the only perceived innovation characteristic had a positive impact on cycling to work, which in turn increased physical and mental wellbeing.

In dieser Doktorarbeit werden erstmalig die Adoptionsdeterminanten des Dienstrad-Leasing Programms in Deutschland und dessen Effekte auf die Radfahraktivität zur Arbeit und Gesundheit wissenschaftlich untersucht. Auf Basis der Diffusionstheorie von Innovationen identifiziert eine qualitative Fallstudie sowohl aus Arbeitgeber-, also auch aus Arbeitnehmersicht verschiedenste förderliche und hinderliche Faktoren für die Teilnahme am Programm. Eine Zwei-Wellen-Längsschnittstudie veranschaulicht, dass sich Kompatibilität als einziges Innovationsmerkmal positiv auf die Radfahraktivität zur Arbeit auswirkt, was wiederum zu einer Verbesserung der wahrgenommenen physischen und psychischen Gesundheit führt.
