Although prosociality is a ubiquitous phenomenon, research on moral wiggle room shows that people sometimes exploit certain situational characteristics as excuses and behave more selfishly than they otherwise would. Obwohl Prosozialität ein allgegenwärtiges Phänomen ist, hat die Forschung zum moralischen Spielraum gezeigt, dass Menschen manchmal bestimmte situative Merkmale als Ausrede nutzen, um sich egoistischer zu verhalten. In dieser Dissertation werden mögliche Mechanismen des moralischen Spielraums beleuchtet. Dabei wird unter anderem die Bedeutung von sozialen Normen und kognitiven Konflikten für die situative Bedingtheit von Prosozialität aufgezeigt. Darüber hinaus werden interindividuelle Unterschiede im Ausnutzen von moralischem Spielraum als Ausrede untersucht.     «
