Abstract:

An impaired amyloid (Aβ) clearance is a suspected cause in sporadic Alzheimer’s disease. Two mechanisms of Aβ clearance have been investigated in patients: The T allele of the C667T polymorphism of the Low-Density-Lipoprotein Receptor-related Protein 1 (LRP-1) transporter gene was positively associated with the cerebral amyloid load. The anti-amyoidogenic NEP activity in the CSF (NEP) was positively associated with biomarkers for neuronal injury and inversely with the CSF-Aβ42 concentration.
