Translated abstract:
Patients on neuroleptic polypharmacy (54 %) vs. partial or constant monotherapy (46 %) were more often male (58 vs. 29 %), younger during the study (33 vs. 36 y) and at the onset of illness (23 vs. 29 y) and had a longer duration of illness (9.5 vs. 7.4 y) with a larger number of inpatient stays (6.5 vs. 2.9). They presented a similar symptom level and knowledge gain at discharge comparable to that of patients on monotherapy without increased side effects. The combination treatment therefore appears to be an adequate and effective therapeutic response to greater disease severity.
