Borderline Personality Disorder, Sociodemography, treatment utilization, degree of severity, self-attention, irrational attitudes, convictions of control

This study is a multicenter cross-sectional study. Beside the evaluation of sociodemographic aspects of 93 Borderline patients, treatment utilizations are examined in different establishments. Internal factors, like self-attention, irrational attitudes and convictions of control as well as interpersonal problems and psychic stress are especially emphasized. Summarizing, the degree of severity is no predictor for treatment utilization. More influencing is the social background and subjective needs and expectations of the patients. A higher degree of severity leads to an amplification of the internal factors. These results accentuate the meaning of cognitive processes in pathogenesis and therapy and help to understand the hetreogenic group of borderline patients. They maintain optimizing prospective treatment in terms of a psychosocial management and an adequate therapeutical supply, orientated on the special needs of the patients
