Abstract:
In this dissertation, the common coupling of two atomic qubits to the mode of an optical cavity is studied. Reflection of light pulses from the coupled atom-atom-cavity system and their subsequent polarization-resolved detection allows for the probabilistic and heralded generation of all maximally entangled Bell states. Furthermore, a universal atom-atom quantum gate is realized and characterized. The achieved results represent an important step towards distributed quantum computers in a quantum network.
