X-ray attenuation is a standard diagnostic tool. Grating-based interferometry additionally yields dark-field contrast, which is related to small-angle scattering. X-ray vector radiography (XVR) uses directional scattering information to measure the scattering mean value, anisotropy and orientation. XVR is employed to detect changes in the trabecular structure of a human cadaver hand. Radiographically occult microfractures are detected in porcine ribs. X-ray dark-field tomography reconstructs the mean scattering signal in 3D and is applied to detect microcracks in teeth.
