Abstract:
In this thesis, for the first time, collisions between cold, trapped polyatomic molecules are observed and control over dipolar relaxation, a key loss mechanism in dense dipolar gases, is demonstrated utilizing an external electric field. This can be an important step towards a dipolar quantum gas of molecules. Moreover, opto-electric Sisyphus cooling of diatomic and linear polyatomic molecules is theoretically studied, proposing cold and ultracold molecule research with more diverse species.

In dieser Arbeit werden erstmalig Kollisionen zwischen kalten, gefangenen polyatomaren Molekülen beobachtet und Kontrolle über dipolare Relaxation, ein zentraler Verlustmechanismus in dichten dipolaren Gasen, mittels eines externen elektrischen Feldes demonstriert. Ferner wird opto-elektrisches Sisyphuskühlen von diatomaren und linearen polyatomaren Molekülen theoretisch untersucht, was kalte und ultrakalte Molekülforschung mit vielfältigeren Spezies in Aussicht stellt.
