The prevailing dietary patterns (DP) among adolescents in Germany were determined. DP showed significant associations with nutrient status, as well as cardiovascular risk markers, even in a population this young. Less favourable DP (regarding food choices and nutrient supply) were more often observed in certain subsets of the adolescents, e. g. among boys aged 16 to 17 years and adolescents with lower socioeconomic status. Healthy DP were associated with a higher frequency of joint family meals and a higher level of physical activity. Health promotion programs can benefit from these findings.
