Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death marked by excessive lipid peroxidation. It is a driver of several diseases, many aspects remain unknown. To uncover regulators of ferroptosis we conducted a compound screening, which showed that Farnesoid X receptor increases anti-ferroptotic genes. Secondly, Seratrodast, an asthma drug, is an inhibitor of ferroptosis due to its quinone moiety. Thirdly, vitamin A inhibits ferroptosis by activating Retinoic Acid receptor and increasing ferroptosis-regulatory genes. This is important during stem cell differentiation.
