A novel theory for neural spatial navigation which uses transitions between locations is presented. After introduction of a mathematical system, which is characterized using propositional logic, a novel model for grid cells is derived. Subsequently, the algorithmic impact with respect to place cells is examined, which leads to a scale-space model for grid cells. It is shown that the theoretically ideal scale-increment is √2. Finally, the novel concepts are applied in a theoretical study of a swarm of robots that compute distributed spatial navigation.
