Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) techniques contribute to the sustainability of aquifer systems, but a major challenge is clogging. This research aims to assess the risk of physical clogging to improve the long-term infiltration capacity of MAR sites. A numerical model for physical clogging is developed to predict the decline in soil hydraulic properties. Site characterisation techniques and the application of the developed methodology to field conditions are validated. The findings support the development of design and management strategies to reduce the clogging risk.
