Future embedded computing platforms for highly automated systems will require substantial amounts of computational power while providing high levels of functional safety. To solve these challenges, we develop two novel, high-performance, scalable, cluster unit architectures based on COTS devices which are analyzed with standard safety methods. A set of high-level requirements is introduced, followed by a novel classification scheme to distribute, allocate and analyze system functions. A conclusive application example is given.
