A steady increase of endoprothetic implantations and their complications, as the feared periprosthetic infection (PPI), is recorded worldwide. The current diagnostic gap for secure PPI early diagnosis is evident. Due to the PPI, there is an AMP increase. The aim of this study was to determine the origin of the AMP expression. The immunohistochemical experiments revealed the first evidence of a significant AMP increase in synovialocytes of periprosthetic membranes. This finding suggests a novel way for the early diagnosis of PPI.
