This angiographic study (n=605) assessed the frequency and pattern of progression and regression of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with and without diabetes. In patients with diabetes (moderate statin therapy) diabetes is associated with an increased risk of progression and decreased probability of regression of coronary atherosclerosis compared to nondiabetic patients. Especially patients with diabetes and LDL cholesterol ≥70mg/dl were at increased risk of progression. A unidirectional progression pattern in all coronary segments was more frequent in diabetic patients.
