Abstract:
Background: Secondary diseases such as tumours develop long after breast irradiation.
Aim: Investigation of irradiation-induced effects on endothelial cells.
Results: Upregulation of the pro-inflammatory type I interferon response as a consequence of an activated cGAS/STING-pathway was found one week post irradiation, development of senescence, and secretion of inflammatory markers affecting non-irradiated bystander cells was found two weeks post single moderate and high irradiation doses.
