Translated abstract:
Death due to infection is the second- leading cause of death in patients with end- stage renal disease on hemodialysis (HD). A number of immune defects have been described. Additionally, chronic inflammation persists in HD patients. Immunoparalysis might be the causative link between both phenomena. We analyzed sera und leukozytes through flow- cytometry of 72 HD patients and healthy controls for markers of immunoparalysis. We found that although some signs of immunoparalysis exist in HD patients, their immunodeficiency is not sufficiently explained by immunoparalysis.
