Abstract:

Abdominal aortic aneurysms are characterized by a loss of elastic and collagen fibres. In this study relevant collagenolytic matrix metalloproteinases and cathepsins were identified by quantification of mRNA and protein content. By analysing correlations of proteases and collagens and their degradation products, MMP-8 ,-9, -12 and Cathepsin S seem particularly involved in collagen degradation in aortic aneurysms. These results have been published in two papers.
