Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection represents a major global health problem, especially in countries with high outdoor temperatures. In this study, a thermostable, therapeutic HBV vaccine was developed to treat chronic hepatitis B patients. Stabilization with amino acid-based formulations resulted in a highly functional vaccine proving stability for 1 month at 40 °C or 12 months at 25 °C in vitro and in a persistent HBV infection mouse model. These findings could be a major step towards global vaccine application.
