Bone density, hormones, bone markers and vitamin D were compared in pre-, peri- and postmenopausal women receiving a mammography between 40 and 65 years. 19,1% were osteopenic, 1,9% were osteoporotic. Bone density in postmenopausal women was lowered more in the lumbar spine (higher trabecular part) than in the hip. Vitamin D was below the normal range of 30-100 ng/ml (mean 18,01 ± 7,3 ng/ml). In comparing the lumbar DXA measurements with a historic cohort of similar age measured with QCT, QCT was more sensitive to the bone density loss at the lumbar spine.
