In this study the effectiveness of the treatment of onychomycosis by a diode laser was assessed. Therefore twenty subjects with onychomycosis of both big toenails were randomized, divided into a study group and control group und treated three times by a diode laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm. We analysed the mycological results, visual changes and subjective pain caused by the treatment. No significant improvement of the onychomycosis-infected toenails was found by the use of the laser treatment six months after the beginning of the therapy.
