Sulfur mustard exposure, even at very low concentrations, showed negative effects on the migration capability of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). Under the influence of sulfur mustard many cytokines that are necessary for hMSCs migration were secreted in a reduced manner. This experimental study showed that the reduced migratory capacity can be compensated in part by the addition of cytokines. Here especially IL-8 (e and m), IL-6 and MCP-1 significantly compensated the sulfur mustard induced migration reduction.
