For this biomechanical study, 18 human cadavaric specimen were dissected and randomly assigned to one of three groups with 2x 4mm, 1x 4mm and 1x 2.4mm-tunnels. After standardized coracoid-drilling, load was applied to the conjoined tendons. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference between the groups regarding load to failure. The single mode of failure for the groups with 1x 4mm and 2x 4mm-drill holes was coracoid fracture (micro-CT data showed a fracture running through the drill holes for all fractured coracoids). In the group with 1x 2.4mm-drill holes, five specimen failed by tear of the conjoined tendons, and one coracoid fractured.
