Central venous port catheters are elementary in today's treatment of oncology patients who are in need of a secure and permanent way to receive their chemotherapy. Ports can be implanted at various localizations. Most common are pectoral and antecubital.
The catheter systems can be very different from one another.
Different characteristics in the material can possibly have an influence on the stability of the catheter.
At the same time the material property of the surface of a catheter can be essential in the thrombogenicity of the catheter.
The most common materials used are polyurethane and silicone.
In this dissertation data of two different central venous port systems was analyzed retrospectively and mechanic as well as thrombotic complications of both systems were compared.
