Consolidation is a fundamental step during processing of reinforced thermoplastic tapes. In this thesis, material parameters of fiber reinforced Polyamide 6 tapes were determined that are suitable for modeling consolidation processes. The main sub-processes of consolidation (heating, contact development, and autohesion) were studied experimentally. The effective bond strength of consolidated tapes was determined by mechanical tests. Finally, a novel approach for designing thermoplastic laser-assisted tape placement processes was developed.
