Since the 1960s, artists have been increasingly adopting methods and techniques that had either not been used or only occasionally been implemented in the production of visual artwork up until that point. Their inclusion in museum collections has meant that those responsible must find ways to maintain, preserve and display this type of artwork, whilst considering its specific spatial and time restrictions. Artwork from the following artists forms the basis of this thesis: Sol LeWitt, Lawrence Weiner, Barry Le Va, Tino Sehgal, Richard Long, Wolfgang Laib and Anya Gallaccio. Preservation strategies fitted to specific works are developed and discussed within this dissertation.
