Translated abstract:
The principal concern of this work is to illuminate whether and how self-employed people in the media branch use virtual networks to bridge social and geographical distanciation. Virtual networks are understood as social relationships that are developed and maintained via the ICTs like email, mailinglists oder newsgroups. Networks are not only interpreted as social networks but increasingly as material and technological networks, too
The research focussed on the questions: how do selfemployed build, maintain and alter social and virtual networks? And: Is it possible to organize common action and form solidarity within a virtual network?
The data are based problem-centred interviews to analyze the meaning of virtual networks of the selfemployed. In addition a specific mailinglist for self employed was analyzed. The main issue was, whether mailinglists are an instrument to organize common action and estabilish solidarity or connectivity between the self-employed.
