In the field of shallow geothermal research, this thesis presents methods for a comprehensive evaluation of thermal groundwater use in the example of Munich. A quantitative assessment of the potential considers legal and technical limits for an application in energy planning. Moreover, a multivariate statistical analysis of the subsurface urban heat island identifies the significant influences and explores the dynamics of the thermal resource. The methods were integrated into Munich's energy use plan and Bavaria's guidelines for energy planning.
