Die Dissertation thematisiert den Begriff »Marmor« und die Marmorpolitur im 18. Jahrhundert. Anhand von Quellenforschung, naturwissenschaftlicher Auswertung von Rückständen der Poliermittel und Politur-Rekonstruktionen nach historischen Vorgaben wird der Marmorproduktionsprozess vom Abbau bis zur Politur und die ökonomische, kulturelle sowie naturwissenschaftliche Relevanz der »Marmore« dieser Zeit aufgeschlüsselt. Im Fokus stehen mitteleuropäische Marmorregionen und der Einsatz von Maschinen in Marmorfabriken und Marmormühlen.     «

The dissertation deals with the term »marble« and marble polishing in the 18th century. Based on the research of 18th century writings, scientific analysis of 18th century polishing agents and the reconstruction of the polishing process following historic recipes promote the understanding of the marble-production-process from quarrying to polishing as well as the economic, cultural and scientific relevance of »marble« at that time. The focus lies on central European marble regions and the use of machinery in marble works and marble mills.     «
