Wood decay in constructions leads to economic losses and safety risks. A promising alternative to toxic wood preservatives is wood modification. To increase the durability of modified wood, understanding the mechanisms behind the decay resistance is important. This thesis analyses the effect of different wood modification techniques on brown rot wood degradation. The results suggest that in modified wood the initial inhibition of decay is due to inhibition of the oxidative degradation phase.
