Abstract:

Translated abstract:
The thesis aims to assess whether material cascading can reduce environmental impacts and increase the efficiency of wood utilization. To analyze the available wood potential for cascading in regard to amounts and quality, a novel approach based on material inventories of buildings is applied. Environmental impacts and efficiency are examined with the life cycle assessment method and by combining a regional material flow model of wood use with optimization. Cascading was found to be the preferable utilization option for recovered wood in regard to environmental impacts and resource efficiency.
