Within the scope of this dissertation, the processes of the release and conversion of the nitrogen species from solid fuels are examined experimentally, in order to determine their influence on existing and novel processes for the reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions. Experiments are conducted both on a lab-scale entrained flow reactor, and a conventional waste-to-energy plant. The focus of the experiments is on the determination of the distribution of fuel-bound nitrogen to the predominant gaseous nitrogen-species hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, and nitric oxide, since they have major influence on the emission reduction.
