The status of the electrode/electrolyte interface determines the key properties of electrocatalytic systems - activity, selectivity, and stability. The status of the interface itself is determined by numerous factors: the electrode material composition, surface morphology, and the electrolyte effects. In this work, the role of these effects on the electrocatalytic properties is elucidated for several specific cases, namely reactions significant for energy conversion in the so-called “hydrogen economy”.

Die Grenzfläche zwischen Elektrode und Elektrolyt bestimmt die Schlüsseleigenschaften eines elektrokatalytischen Systems – Aktivität, Selektivität und Stabilität. Der Zustand der Grenzfläche selbst wird dabei durch verschiedene Faktoren bestimmt: die Zusammensetzung des Elektrodenmaterials, die Oberflächenmorphologie und die Elektrolyteffekte. Diese Dissertation befasst sich mit dem Einfluss dieser Parameter auf die elektrokatalytischen Eigenschaften in unterschiedlichen Spezialfällen, nämlich Reaktionen, die ausschlaggebend für Energieumwandlung in der sogenannten „Wasserstoffwirtschaft“ sind.
