The requirements for modern power supplies with regard to efficiency, power density and costs become more and more demanding. A possible power supply concept to meet these high requirements are single-stage converters which enable rectification, power factor correction and isolation in a single converter stage. Dr. Cuk presented a single-stage topology based on its "True Bridgeless PFC". However, this topology shows some problematic points. For this reason, an optimized circuit topology, the so-called bridgeless ZVS-switching buck-boost PFC, was developed and evaluated. In this topology, the above-mentioned problematic points do not occur. Further, additional advantageous functionalities are included. This topology can also be extended to an isolated single-stage converter by inserting a transformer.
