Polar intermetallic compounds are a special class in solid state chemistry. Due to the variety of crystal structures, they can have interesting physical properties and some of them are even superconducting. In this work, Fe/Co/Ni-rich silicides and germanides were investigated. Products obtained from the elements by high-temperature synthesis were characterized, crystal structures solved, and electronic properties calculated at the theoretical level.
