The aim of this project (IGSSE funding reference: 11.06 - PCC2) was to develop novel hybrid materials combining molecular catalysts and active semiconductor substrates for (photo-)electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide. This concept was investigated with rhenium(I) bipyridine carbonyl complexes, as model (photo-)electrocatalysts and active gallium nitride supports with the aim to enhance the catalytic activity and stability by systematically eliminating drawbacks tied to the molecular constituents and elucidate potential synergies between the two materials.

Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurden neuartige Hybridmaterialien basierend auf der Verbindung von Rhenium(I)-Bipyridin-Carbonyl-Komplexen und aktiven Galliumnitrid-Trägern zur Umwandlung von Kohlenstoffdioxid entwickelt und untersucht. Der Fokus der Arbeit lag dabei auf der Offenlegung und Ausschöpfung etwaiger synergetischer Effekte zwischen den beiden Materialien.
