Abstract:
Single-site palladium catalysts were obtained by grafting of Pd(II) complexes on pre-treated silica surfaces. Structure, properties and stability of the surface complexes were investigated. EXAFS studies confirmed the presence of isolated Pd or small Pd(0) clusters dependent on treatment conditions. CO atmosphere significantly enhanced the Pd mobility. The catalysts were applied for Heck reactions and showed superior activity. Leaching studies allowed fundamental insights in Pd dissolution dynamics during the reaction. The properties of silica surfaces were successfully modified by various organic substituents.
