The deposition of amyloid plaques that are composed of amyloid beta fibrils is one of the pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease. The development of amyloid imaging markers and inhibitors has considerable significance. Nuclear magnetic resonance is one of the most powerful tools for the characterization of protein structure and protein-ligand interactions. In combination with biophysical and biochemical techniques, we characterized the structure of interactions surface mimics peptide inhibitors that rescue the cellular toxicity of the amyloid beta peptide, and investigated complexes formed from PET tracer molecules and amyloid beta fibrils.
