Subject of this thesis were three functionally diverse bacterial oxidoreductases which were investigated with regard to the bio-based synthesis of ω-aminolauric acid, an intermediate for the production of polyamide 12. The enzymes were produced in
Escherichia coli and their biochemical and catalytic properties were characterized. All biocatalysts showed high activity towards the industrially relevant substrates. For two of the enzymes under study the thermal stability and product specificity, respectively, were improved by protein engineering, thus boosting their potential for industrial application.
