This study investigates the nutritional and physiological adaptations of roe deer and chamois to seasonally and regionally varying forage availability in Bavarian habitats by analysing the rumen's diet, crude nutrients, bacterial microbiota, and energy density. Both species show pronounced seasonal and habitat-specific adaptations. The transitions between the two species are fluid rather than strict. In future, roe deer and chamois should always be considered in the light of regional and seasonal influences.
