The PeKnO-Study is a longitudinal prospective observational study, which followed 53 out of 78 recruited healthy women (age45-56) over a period of two years. The focus of this thesis was the “luteal” phase or anovulatory second cycle half during perimenopause, which has not been studied in many large studies such as SWAN. Vasomotor symptoms (VMS) correlated negatively with estradiol and progesterone and positively with LH, FSH, and bone density loss. Vertigo correlated negatively with estradiol and progesterone. 85% of participants reported moderate or severe complaints on at least one of the 5 visits at 6-monthly intervals, and moderate to severe joint pain was common with 26,5-29,2% over the course of the study (Kupperman index).
