Political, social and economic crises in the 21st century demand special exceptional strategies, expanding the executive power and limiting the legal control mechanisms. This transformation of the sovereignty - rule of law ratio can be discussed with the political theory of the state of exception. By developing a typology of exceptional situations, new types of exceptional cases can be diagnosed. These new exceptional types are characterized by the suspension of the legal consequence or the misuse of the legal interpretation. The typology can be illustrated by explaining current economic crises, crises of flight and migration or terrorist threats.
