The thesis investigates the reduction of latency in video communication. In course of this work, the components of a real-time video communication setup are analyzed and a delay measurement system is developed. The proposed methods for delay reduction use variable sampling rates. To be able to offer a good video quality, a study finds a model for human perception of temporally sampled visual signals. This model is employed in the delay reduction methods. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
