The effect of exogenous Endomorphin-1, Endomorphin-2 and N/OFQ ((Nociceptin/Orphanin FQ) on gastric somatostatin secretion were examined in the isolated perfused rat stomach. All three peptides are inhibitors of the of gastric somatostatin secretion, but this effect is mediated via different receptors depending on the concentrations used. At the lower dose of N/OFQ, the effect is transmitted via NOP receptors, while at the higher dose, the effect is at least in part mediated via opiate receptors. The inhibitory effect of Enomorphin-1 and -2 on gastric somatostatin secretion is at least in part mediated via OP3 receptors, but depending on the used concentrations OP1, OP2 and non-opiate receptor mediated effects have also to be considered.
