Using a computer-based analysis of writing and drawing movements, we studied kinematic abnormalities of handwriting and drawing movements in 33 patients with Huntington´s disease (HD) and 33 age-matched healthy controls. We also investigated how these kinematic abnormalities are related to other clinical features of HD. In patients, handwriting and drawing movements were slower, less automated and more variable than in controls. Some kinematic measures of handwriting showed a strong linear relationship with clinical scores. Therefore, kinematic analysis of writing and drawing provides an appropriate tool to assess manual motor impairment in HD.
