Several proteins have been described as effectors of the NO/cGMP/cGMP-Kinase signaling cascade.The recently described cGMP-Kinase substrate CRP2 was shown by western blotting to be ubiqitously expressed with a very diverse level of expression among different tissues. Using the two-hybrid-system, cGMP-Kinase Ia was found to have a sevenfold stronger interaction than cGMP-Kinase Iß with CRP2. The translation initiation factor eIF4AI could be defined as a new interactor of CRP2. The NO/cGMP/cGMP-Kinase signaling cascade as well as eIF4AI have been proposed as regulators of cell proliferation. It could be possible, that eIF4AI is a down-stream effector of some of the effects of NO/cGMP on cell proliferation.
